BIO: ESTHER BOUZAS

Esther Bouzas is an artist and teacher from Spain. As far as Esther can remember, she started painting when she was a small child. Often, she would be lying on the floor creating her first masterpieces, with her crayons scattered all around her. She began her art training when she was 12 years old. Her teachers were well-known local artists, from whom she learned until after completion of her high school studies. Later she went to study Fine Arts at a university in Sevilla, Spain. After completing her studies she moved to Vigo, Spain, as she began her professional art career. She also began teaching art in various schools in Vigo, at this time, as well.

Esther's father introduced her to Native American culture when she was a very young girl. He traveled often to America for business purposes, and it was during those visits that he learned about the real Native American people. He knew that the media incorrectly portrayed Native American people to the rest of the world. Thus, he wanted Esther to know the real truth about Native Americans. He began to collect books, magazines and other materials that were about Native Americans and gifted them to Esther, upon his many returns from America.

As Esther began to develop her own style of painting, while also learning to express herself through her art, she began to create many of her artworks with Native American themes. And in doing so, Esther honors the Native American people through her art, as she believes that her talent is a communication that can influence others to learn more about the Native American people. She also teaches the true history of the Native American people to her students and to anyone else who has an interest in Native America.

Esther is very grateful to her father in bringing this knowledge of the Native American people to her. Because of his action in doing this, Esther's journey has brought her to the traditional homelands of many Native American nations. She has come to love and embrace the culture and teachings of the Native American people, and her lifestyle is based on those beliefs. She is not trying to become a Native American. She only wants the world to know the truth about this beautiful culture and that Native America is still alive and well! Thus, she dedicates her artwork to her father and all Native America people.
